Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC) is passionate about providing high-quality services to our communities, residents and businesses. This means we must employ and retain the most talented and dedicated people.

Situated within the heart of the Cambridge-Peterborough Growth Area, Huntingdonshire is a beautiful district that boasts thriving market towns and many attractive villages, each with its own identity. We are an innovative and forward-thinking local authority whose residents are at the heart of our decision-making.

At HDC we want to employ staff who embody our icare values (Inspiring, Collaborative, Accountable, Respectful, Enterprising), all of which support our ultimate purpose of putting our customers first.

Job details

We are looking for an enthusiastic and organised Events Support Officer to join our busy team at Burgess Hall, St Ives. This is a varied and rewarding role supporting the administration and delivery of a wide range of events, including conferences, performances, community events and private functions.

You will be part of a friendly and professional events team, helping to ensure the smooth planning, coordination and delivery of events, and providing excellent customer service to event organisers, performers and members of the public. This role offers a great opportunity for someone with strong organisational skills and a passion for customer service to develop experience within a high-profile events and hospitality venue.

About the role

This role supports the Events & Hospitality Manager and Events Operations Manager in the effective administration and delivery of events and functions at Burgess Hall.

You will provide essential administrative support, assist with customer enquiries and event planning processes, and support the operational delivery of events to ensure high standards of service. Day-to-day duties include responding to event enquiries, maintaining accurate booking and event records, preparing event documentation, supporting invoicing processes, and providing front-of-house support during events.

You will also assist with the operational delivery of events where required, including basic setup, signage, equipment checks and supporting customers and colleagues during busy periods.

This role strongly reflects our icare values:

  • Inspiring – taking pride in delivering successful events for our community

  • Collaborative – working closely with colleagues across the events team and wider council

  • Accountable – taking responsibility for accurate administration and customer communication

  • Respectful – delivering inclusive, professional and welcoming customer service

  • Enterprising - identifying small improvements that enhance customer experience and support the smooth delivery of events.

The role will occasionally require evening and weekend work to support events.

About you

You will be a well-organised, customer-focused individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and as part of a team. You will have excellent communication skills, a positive and professional attitude, and a strong commitment to customer service.

You will be confident dealing with customers by phone, email and face-to-face, able to manage multiple tasks and priorities, and have good attention to detail when handling event information and documentation.

Strong IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Office, are essential.

Experience in an events, hospitality or customer service environment is desirable, but not essential. Most importantly, you will be enthusiastic, adaptable and willing to support both the administrative and operational aspects of event delivery.

An offer of employment is conditional upon having the right to work in the UK. HDC does not hold a Sponsorship Licence and is unable to provide a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) or take over sponsorship for any role.
