Report air pollution
Anyone can make a report relating to smoke or odour that emerges from a property and affects residents to an unreasonable extent.
Report Air PollutionAir quality monitoring
Huntingdonshire District Council has an automatic monitoring station located on the ring road within the Huntingdon Air Quality Management Area. The equipment was replaced in April 2019 to improve data capture, reliability and accuracy of results.
Air Quality data for this monitoring station can be viewed at Air Quality England, by selecting Huntingdonshire District Council from the drop-down menu.
As well as the automatic monitor Huntingdonshire District Council utilises diffusion tubes around the district to monitor pollution levels. More information including locations and results (of these and the automatic monitoring station) can be viewed within the Annual Status Reports, the links to which are below.
Our Environmental Health team continually reviews and assesses air quality to make sure that traffic and industrial pollutants do not put public health at risk. This process involves air quality monitoring and pollutant dispersion modelling. If levels are found to above recognised public health standards, we will work with relevant parties to control and reduce levels.
There are four Air Quality Management Areas (AQMA) in the district:
- A14 Hemingford to Fenstanton AQMA Map [PDF, 0.4MB]
- Brampton AQMA Map [PDF, 0.4MB]
- Huntingdon AQMA Map [PDF, 0.5MB]
- St Neots AQMA Map [PDF, 0.5MB]
Monitoring undertaken within the St Neots AQMA has indicated continued compliance with the Air Quality Objectives for a number of years. We therefore commissioned an air quality consultant to complete a modelling exercise to determine whether there are likely to be any exceedances in the St Neots AQMA, in order to support the possible revocation of the AQMA status. With the conclusions of this report and the support from Defra provided in response to our annual status reports, we undertook a review of our AQMAs in 2023 - View the document [PDF, 2.5MB]. This report was provided to the Licensing and Protection Committee on 25 January 2024 along with the proposal to revoke the St Neots, Brampton and Hemingford to Fenstanton AQMAs. The Committee resolved to commence with the three revocations, with the Huntingdon one currently remaining in place.
We produce annual Air Quality Review and Assessment Reports and submit them to the government. Recent reports are available below - if you require any earlier reports please contact us.
