Job details

About the role

As Communications Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping and enhancing the reputation of Huntingdonshire District Council. Reporting to the Head of Communications, Engagement and Public Affairs, you will lead a team of communications professionals, delivering integrated, high-quality campaigns that inform, engage and inspire our residents, staff and stakeholders.

You’ll lead the development and implementation of the council’s Communications Strategy - working across service areas to promote our priorities, manage reputational risks, and support organisational transformation. Your work will ensure our messages are clear, consistent and aligned with our values, whether through digital platforms, media relations or internal communication channels.

About you

You’re a confident, strategic communicator with a passion for storytelling, a strong grasp of modern communications tools, and the ability to lead through influence and collaboration. You bring proven experience in developing and delivering successful communications strategies, complemented by strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate, coach and develop a high-performing team.

Your excellent verbal and written communication skills are matched by your experience in managing media and crisis communications, and you have a solid understanding of the local government landscape and the importance of community engagement. Politically aware and professionally grounded, you demonstrate integrity and discretion in all your work, with a commitment to the highest standards of public service.

Comfortable using digital platforms and insights to reach diverse audiences, you are a values-driven professional who embraces change, champions inclusive communication, and is committed to making a meaningful impact in local government.

An offer of employment is conditional upon having the right to work in the UK. Huntingdonshire District Council does not hold a Sponsorship Licence and is unable to provide a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) or take over sponsorship for any role.
