The Habitat Banking Project Support Officer will play a key role in delivering HDC's innovative Habitat Bank and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) programme. This is an exciting opportunity to support climate and nature recovery ambitions across the district, working closely with ecologists, landowners, developers and internal services.
The role offers a varied mix of project coordination, technical support, site monitoring and customer engagement, contributing directly to local environmental improvement and long term habitat creation.
About the role
This role provides essential project, administrative and technical support to our Habitat Bank and BNG processes, helping ensure statutory responsibilities are met while enabling high quality environmental outcomes across the district. You’ll help maintain accurate biodiversity unit records, support habitat monitoring and compliance, produce accessible information for different audiences, and assist with continuous improvement of systems and processes.
Working collaboratively with internal services and external partners, the role directly supports the Local Nature Recovery Strategy and contributes to wider environmental policy delivery.

About you
You will be organised, proactive and motivated by environmental improvement. With the ability to manage multiple tasks, maintain accurate records and communicate clearly, you’ll bring strong administrative and project support skills alongside an understanding of biodiversity, habitats or environmental principles.
You’ll be comfortable analysing information, preparing written content, and working both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
A positive, adaptable mindset and enthusiasm for learning are essential, along with the confidence to engage with landowners, developers and community groups. A full UK driving licence and willingness to undertake site visits are also required.
An offer of employment is conditional upon having the right to work in the UK. HDC does not hold a Sponsorship Licence and is unable to provide a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) or take over sponsorship for any role.
