We are sending text messages (SMS), email reminders and voicemails to residents who are behind with their Council Tax. This is a new system for sending legitimate messages to residents.

If your Council Tax account falls into arrears, we may contact you before we take further recovery action.

This service can help prevent statutory recovery notices from being issued and may help you avoid paying expensive costs.

Although this service aims to prevent customers from falling further into arrears, you should not rely on it.

You are responsible for paying your instalments on time, in line with your bill. If you don’t, we may take recovery action.

How the Council Tax team will contact you

We may contact you using one or more of the following:

  • text message and verification screen

  • email

  • voicemail message.

I’ve been contacted - how do I know if it’s genuine?

The text message will include a link that takes you to the verification screen. It will look like this and include your name.

Verification screen example

If you click the link in the message, we will ask you to verify your postcode.

Emails

Emails will come from council.tax@huntingdonshire.gov.uk with the subject line: Your Council Tax Reminder - Do Not Ignore.

Please note - you cannot reply to this email address.

If you're still concerned

We will never ask you for your bank account details. The link in our messages will always start with ct.huntingdonshire.gov.uk (please note - you cannot reply to this email address).

If you receive a text message or an email about your Council Tax arrears and you're not sure it’s genuine, call us on 01480 388388
