Huntingdonshire District Council is launching a consultation on additional sites as part of the Local Plan from Wednesday 23 April to Wednesday 4 June 2025.
The Local Plan sets out a long-term vision for sustainable development across the district. It identifies areas of land for new homes, jobs, services and infrastructure, and provides the planning policies used to determine planning applications.
To meet future housing and employment needs, the council issued a call for sites, receiving 369 submissions initially. A consultation on those sites was held between September and November 2024. Further sites were submitted between 1 August 2024 and 31 January 2025, and these 68 additional sites have now been assessed.
This consultation specifically relates to the additional sites and encompasses a total of 68 locations. These include 51 sites proposed for residential use, six sites proposed for commercial development, one site proposed for infrastructure, seven mixed-use sites proposals, and three sites proposed for renewable energy projects.
As part of the consultation, the council is inviting feedback on two key documents. The Additional Sites Land Availability Assessments provide an evaluation of each site's suitability for development, while the Additional Sites Sustainability Appraisal assesses the potential environmental, social and economic impacts of the proposed sites.
The Additional Sites consultation does not revisit sites consulted on during the Further Issues and Options Consultation held in autumn 2024. It focuses solely on new sites submitted in the latter part of the site submission window.
Clara Kerr, Head of Planning, Infrastructure and Public Protection at Huntingdonshire District Council, said: “This is an important opportunity for residents and stakeholders to share their views on how and where growth should take place across the district. Your input will help shape a Local Plan that strikes the right balance between meeting development needs and protecting our environment and quality of life.
“Residents can review whether any proposed sites are located near where they live and provide feedback on the council’s assessments as part of this consultation. These assessments indicate whether the council considers a site to be potentially suitable for development or not. If you disagree with an assessment or its conclusions - which are outlined at the end of each report - please tell us why or suggest what might make a site more appropriate for development. Not all sites will be required, the number selected will depend on the district’s housing and employment needs, the preferred growth strategy, and supporting evidence.”
Have your say from 23 April to 4 June 2025.
