Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC) will be making dedicated funding available to town and parish councils from 8 March to support locally led commemorative activities linked to the national COVID Day of Reflection.

The government has designated 8 March 2026 as the next Covid Day of Reflection, following a recommendation from the UK Commission on Covid Commemoration to create a meaningful and lasting way to remember the pandemic.

HDC will offer each town and parish council £250 to fund or part fund a commemorative event or activity at a time that best suits their community. Councils will also be provided with a range of ideas to help them shape meaningful, locally appropriate activities that reflect the experiences and resilience of their residents.

Cllr Sarah Conboy, Leader of HDC, said: “This funding will support our local communities in marking the impact of the pandemic in ways that feel right for them. Whether through remembrance, celebration of community spirit, or creative reflection, we want to empower every community to commemorate in a way that is meaningful and personal.”

HDC extends its thanks to councils and community leaders for their continued dedication to supporting residents across the district as they reflect on the pandemic and look ahead to the future.
