Will the park remain open during construction?
Yes. We’ve carefully planned the work to keep as much of the park open as possible. Some areas may be temporarily closed for safety, and clear signage and fencing will be in place to guide visitors.
Will car park charges increase?
As part of the project, we will be reviewing parking charges to bring them in line with other parks in the area. We will communicate any changes in advance.
What will happen to the old play area where the new car park will be built?
The current play area will be decommissioned due to its age and condition. However, our iconic red slide will remain! New replacement play equipment has already been installed around the perimeter of the park.
How will wildlife be protected during the works?
All contractors will follow strict environmental guidelines, including seasonal restrictions on certain activities. This helps minimise disruption to habitats and wildlife, especially during key breeding and migration periods.
Will the cafe or Countryside Centre close? Will toilets still be available?
The Countryside Centre has already closed ahead of construction. The cafe will remain open until building work begins. Temporary cafe and toilet facilities will be available in the main car park during construction.
What will happen to the current cafe building?
We hope to repurpose the building to provide additional community space within the park. The timing of this will depend on future funding.
When will bookings open for the new Countryside Centre?
More details will be shared closer to completion, which is expected in early 2027.
Will Huntingdon parkrun continue during construction?
We are working closely with the Huntingdon parkrun team and will review arrangements on a week-by-week basis. Temporary cafe and toilet facilities will be available during the works.
When is the archaeology dig taking place?
The archaeological dig is scheduled for the week commencing 2 February 2026.
What happens if something important is found?
Any discoveries will be reported to the relevant authorities and assessed by qualified professionals. The next steps will depend on the significance of what is found.

Yes! There will be a designated dog-friendly area, so your four-legged friends can join you.
Will the new cafe be expensive?
We’ll be offering a wider range of food and drink options, with something to suit all budgets.
Will I still be able to get doggy sausages?
Absolutely! We’ll be offering a wider selection of dog treats, including the much-loved doggy sausage.
