Summary
You may require a premises licence from us to provide the following types of entertainment:

any entertainment between 11pm and 8am
-
amplified live or recorded music to an audience of more than 500 people

recorded music to an audience on premises that are not licensed to sell or supply alcohol

performances of plays or dance to an audience of more than 500 people
-
indoor sporting events to more than 1,000 spectators
-
boxing or wrestling
-
screening films to an audience.

Yes, you need a licence to screen a film or show moving pictures. One licence application can cover all types of regulated entertainment and the sale or supply of alcohol.
When don’t I need a licence?
You don’t need a licence in the following circumstances:
A live music performance or playing recorded music if:

it takes place between 8am and 11pm and
-
it takes place at premises that is already licensed for on sales of alcohol and
-
the audience is fewer than 500 people.
A play or dance performance if:

it takes place between 8am and 11pm and
-
the audience is fewer than 500 people.
An indoor sporting event if:
-
it takes place between 8am and 11pm and
-
there are fewer than 1,000 spectators.
Exemptions
There are exemptions for:
-
places of public worship, village halls, church halls and other similar buildings
-
education
-
films/moving pictures that are incidental to other activities that aren’t classed as regulated entertainment
-
television broadcasts.
