People & Communities

Huntingdonshire District Council wants to support the community and by working with our local partners, building on the great work we did during the pandemic, to create a network of Community Spaces, a group of safe and accessible places where people can come together.

Our intention is to create a directory of existing community facilities across the public, private, health and voluntary sectors that can be used for a range of purposes. We hope these Community Spaces can be welcoming environments where people of all ages can go to take part in something fun while meeting new people in their community.

Sharing Community Spaces for Huntingdonshire

We know that many of our partners across Huntingdonshire already provide this type of facility, so we are contacting local organisations to see what facilities or services they have available before letting our residents know how to access the Community Spaces near them.

What to expect if you want to use a Community Space

Every Community Space will offer something different. They could be a place to meet new people over a hot drink or try out a new activity. All of the Community Spaces will be registered with the council to make sure they are safe for people to use.

Guide to setting up and running a Community Space

(Written in response to requests from local groups)

Community Spaces have developed from the warm space movement that was a response to the cost-of-living crisis in the winter of 22-23. These spaces are now more than just places to go to keep warm. They are now places where people can relax and socialise, take part in group activities, find a sympathetic ear and access practical support in a friendly environment. Each space will have its own character.

The guide is intended to help existing Community Spaces continue their great work, as well as giving advice for anyone who'd like to set up a new one.
