About the Community Health and Wealth Building Strategy and Delivery Fund

The Community Health and Wealth Building Strategy is Huntingdonshire District Council’s (HDC) long-term commitment to improving quality of life for local people by addressing the root causes of poor health and economic inequality.

By adopting a Community Wealth Building approach, the strategy ensures that public sector investment and decision-making deliver direct benefits for local communities.

It supports HDC's Corporate Plan [PDF, 2.5MB] and the Huntingdonshire Futures partnership’s shared focus on prevention and wellbeing.

The strategy focuses on creating the conditions for residents to thrive by strengthening:

  • economic resilience

  • social connection

  • physical and mental wellbeing

  • access to local opportunities

The Community Health and Wealth Building Delivery Fund

Building on the success of the pilot phase, we have launched the full Community Health and Wealth Building Delivery Fund.

The Delivery Fund is a £750,000 investment over three years to support community-led projects that improve health, wellbeing and economic resilience across Huntingdonshire.

Up to £700,000 will be available through the main fund to support projects that:

  • improve physical and mental health, including through increased physical activity

  • strengthen economic resilience, focusing on employment, skills and reducing barriers

  • increase social connection and a sense of community across Huntingdonshire

The Community Health and Wealth Building Delivery Fund is a dedicated resource to support delivery of the Community Health and Wealth Building Strategy.

The fund will empower local communities, organisations and partners to lead initiatives that address the root causes of inequality and poor health.

When the Delivery Fund opens, the following organisations will be eligible to apply:

  • Voluntary and community sector organisations based in Huntingdonshire

  • Projects must be delivered in Huntingdonshire and benefit Huntingdonshire residents

  • Applicants must hold a dedicated organisational bank account

The following are not eligible to apply:

  • Precepting authorities

  • Private individuals

  • Commercial organisations

Projects should:

  • contribute to one or more of the three strategy priorities:

    • improving physical and mental health

    • supporting economic resilience

    • strengthening social connection and sense of community

  • include a clear focus on prevention

  • demonstrate match funding, including in-kind contributions (for example, room hire, equipment use, staff time)

  • for existing projects, show how funding will grow or expand the offer

  • include a plan to sustain any core costs beyond the initial funding period

  • be ready to begin within a reasonable timeframe following a funding decision.

How the application process works

The Delivery Fund will operate a two-stage application process:

Stage 1 – Expressions of interest (EOI)

Organisations will be invited to submit an EOI outlining their project idea, how it aligns with the strategy priorities and the level of funding requested. More information below.

Stage 2 – Full application (by invitation only)

Following assessment of EOIs, a shortlist of organisations will be invited to submit a full application. Full applications will require more detailed information, including delivery plans, budgets, outcomes and sustainability.

Only organisations invited to Stage 2 will be able to submit a full application.

Expressions of interest (EOI)

Submit an Expression of Interest Application Form

The remaining delivery Fund is officially open, starting with the Expressions of Interest stage.
Successful EOI applicants will be contacted and invited to submit a full application following the initial assessment process.

What was the pilot fund?

HDC launched a £50,000 Community Health and Wealth Building Pilot Fund as the first phase of the wider £750,000 Delivery Fund.

The pilot ran from 1 to 31 August 2025 and was designed to test and refine HDC's approach to supporting community-led projects that enhance health, wellbeing and economic resilience.

The pilot phase has provided valuable learning to shape the full Delivery Fund and has helped to strengthen local partnerships across the district.

Pilot fund - successful projects

The following projects were successful applicants to the Community Health and Wealth Building Pilot Fund.

A Grant Panel was convened to review all eligible pilot applications. The panel brought together representatives from different sectors, alongside local residents, to ensure decisions reflected the priorities, values and lived experience of Huntingdonshire communities.

The quality of pilot applications was exceptionally high, demonstrating the creativity, commitment and capacity of the local voluntary and community sector. The five funded pilot projects represent some of the most innovative and impactful ideas submitted during this first phase.

  • Sports Connections Foundation – Inspire Through Sport (Huntingdon)

Weekly multi-sport sessions and mentoring for young people in Huntingdon, supporting confidence, wellbeing and future opportunities.

  • Hobby Hub (Yaxley) – The MENtor Shed

Intergenerational woodworking, repair and creative workshops designed to build confidence, skills and social connection among young people and adults.

  • Centre33 – Stronger Futures
