Residents are being encouraged to take part in a new survey about Huntingdonshire District Council’s weekly food waste collection service, which will run from 6 August until 3 September 2026.
The free service was launched in March 2026 after new legislation was introduced by central government. It aims to make food waste recycling easier for residents and contributes to reducing carbon emissions within the district.
To date, the waste collection crews have collected over 1,000 tonnes of food waste, averaging approximately 20 tonnes per day. That means around 206 trucks of food waste have now been diverted from landfill, and instead has been anaerobically digested into renewable energy and fertiliser.
Councillor Julie Kerr, Executive Councillor for Parks, Countryside, Waste and Street Scene, said:
“We are incredibly pleased with the positive response to the weekly food waste collection service since its launch in March. By diverting food waste from landfill and turning it into energy and fertiliser, we are supporting a more sustainable future for Huntingdonshire. I would encourage all residents to take a moment to share their experiences with the service, so we can understand what is working well and where we can improve the service further.”
The survey asks residents to give feedback on the service delivery and use of their food waste caddies.
Residents who complete the survey in full will be in with a chance to win a £40 gift voucher.
